Gears have begun to turn, and by turn I mean its time to learn how to rotocast! Those heads are gonna be too heavy if they are solid resin so what a perfect time to learn a new technique and mix it with everything I have already learned. Ill post up some new pics once I get him all ready for the next phase!

And a big shout out to all the people who showed interest in THOR this year so far, I cant thank you enough!

THOR v2 Artist's Proofs DIY 8" Resin Figure @ SDCC 2011

Our first big (relatively) run for SDCC 2011 is finally finished! Huge thanks to everyone once again for all the support, you know who you are!

PBC had several goals for this run of THOR and while we did not reach all of them, I do realize there has been a marked improvement in both quality of the final figures and the speed at which I was able to manufacture them. That being said we're still not quite there yet. The most important thing is to continue to develop and perfect my mold making and pouring techniques so that I end up spending the minimum amount of time handling your final custom kit.

For example, and this might spoil it a bit, one of our projects in development has something to do with GIANT ROBOTS. Excited? We are too, but to reach that level of precision I *need* to be able to fill a box of parts that are absolutely clean, with crisp edges and ready for you to customize with minimal cleanup.

Equally important is to improve package design! Design the figure to fit the box, not the other way around! Especially if your budget does not allow for custom made boxes!

Basically, I just want to insure that we can get more cool kits to you much sooner. Word.

Second Wave THOR here we come!

20 THORs almost ready for Comic-Con 2011!

Ok not exactly 20, there were some people that expressed interest when the first wave went out but I didn't have enough made at the time so more like 16 total will be sold at $40 for the assembled and pre-primed version, or $35 for the unassembled garage kit.

I plan to have only 5 of the unassembled versions but numbers are subject to change :D

This will be the only run of THOR for a little while as im pretty much going nuts thinking about our next project and want to actually get started on it. That being said I am excited about incorporating roto-casting into the workflow. I would also like to play with adding silicone parts into the mix as well. some previews should be up after Comic-Con.

Ill have more pics when were all boxed up and of course, pics for Comic Con. I intend to get a lot more photos this year than last :)

Remold progress and test pours today

3DJohnny has been working on the remold of THOR and today its time for a progress report.

My goal for this re-mold is to minimize any registration errors and air pockets. By doing this I intend to drastically reduce cleanup time and increase production time because a healthy stockpile of THOR for SDCC2011 will be nice to have. Plus there is a queue of other ideas and commissions that have been patiently waiting and really need some love.

The first "production" mold taught me a lot about how the process of making a silicone mold goes, and this one will probably teach me even more. I feel much more confident about this version and it will be exciting to see how the test pours turn out today!

These photos are just a few progress shots of the new molds. ill get a shot of the whole set once im done with em all.

Nothing like some 8 oz nails to really drive home the point...

DCON 2010: Best con or BEST CON?

We really had a great time at DCON. 3DJohnny got to catch up with a lot of old friends and made some new ones. Spankystokes as always hooked it up and shared some of his booth space so we could display THOR. Did a couple of trades with some incredibly talented artists and designers such as SawdustBear and Steve Talkowski.

Now its time to prepare for SDCC 2011. 3 big projects on our plate and of course, MORE THOR.

Ive already started on the upgraded molds for THOR so ill have way less cleanup and faster production, woohaa!

Lets try our best and get everything done.

So, while Julie B did an awesome job of bringing THOR V0 to life, due to a lot of undercuts and odd crevices it was difficult to get 1 piece casts, reliably. Therefore the costs were unfortunately high and conversely our price points also reflected that. I am modifying the original THOR and made some changes for our run of blanks. THOR V1 will now be a total of 4 base pieces (body, arms, and hammer) instead of 2. He will also come with his two signature lightning bolt horns for his helmet. If there is significant interest I’d also like to do other objects for him to hold and alternate horn styles.

It’s hard for me to decide just which subject to tackle first but just know that this isn’t the easiest thing to discuss, frankly. Because of our enthusiasm and most likely some newbie mistakes were a bit short on being able to start production of blanks in earnest. Our ability to go forward will rely in a large part on your desire to have your very own THOR to love and hug and cherish and maybe even paint if that’s your kinda thing. We have two options right now:

Unassembled, bagged and tagged Garage Kit style packaging, for $50 I would at least be cleaning up any flashing or other obvious boogers, but it would otherwise be fresh for you.
Dee-lux DIY version with an assembled and cleaned up THOR (with or without horns attached, your choice), packaged in a handmade box with lineart labels so you can fully customize your presentation, for $65

At this time we would humbly request the full amounts for Pre-Orders, so that we can flip your investment right away and get to work on the master mold, and subsequently cast THOR V1 for shipping! You have our guarantee that if we cannot get a sufficient amount of pre orders to begin production in a reasonable amount of time, you will get a full refund!

Pre-Orders will be limited to a maximum of 25 for the first run, and the cut-off will be the beginning of October, although we will begin production as soon as we can.

San Diego COMIC-CON 09' Aftermath!

Before I say anything else I’d like to thank each and every person that lent support since we decided to bring Plastic Booty Collectibles to life. It is our goal to bring fun and inspired toys to you and your creativity. We have a lot to work on in the coming months and we will do our best to keep you updated on our timeline. Thank You!

San Diego Comic-Con 09’ was excellent. I met a lot of great people and got great feedback on our Proof-of-Concept Prototypes of THOR. Pretty In Plastic did an awesome job at bringing our sculpt to Resin, and we would love to work with them again! Ayleen and George Gaspar from Toybreak took some time in the middle of the insanity and give some honest feedback and talk about the business of Toys, and George's solemn decision to trim his impressive beard over the course of the con. We traded some moustache stories too! Good Times. Frank Kozik was in the trenches and I barely had a chance to chat with him, but he’s as industrious as ever. I’ve actually got a Dinosaur Jr. print he did a while back I’d like for him to see, but alas I forgot to bring it. Hopefully I’ll catch him at VTN/D-CON. Cheers Frank!

John Stokes from SpankyStokes.com and Chris H. From SanBox inc. made a brave trek through the throngs and waves of attendees down to our booth in small press and got some pics and video of what we had to offer. Chris was a really chill guy and fun to talk to and John clearly works very hard to get the latest news, most often times firsthand. Please check John's coverage of SDCC09 out!

Chika, the proprietor of GUNNZO, a local Designer Toy outlet and gallery came by to say hello and bring me some great news I will be able to share with you all at a later date. She shows nothing but pure enthusiasm when it comes to toys and has really helped to spur our drive to keep things going. If you’re ever in San Diego I encourage you to check her store out. She’s got the coolest little collection of designer vinyl and prints from some really talented people, and two very cute dogs! (ask about the sketches she got :P)

And while not directly in the realm of Toys, I really wanted to mention a fellow by the name of Tom Carroll. He’s in the process of compiling and promoting a comic book cookbook, featuring the favorite dishes of some of the best artists in the entertainment industry. Tom is really a stand up guy and tireless professional. Thanks for the support!

Well, it's July again and in San Diego that means Comic Con! (Also my birthday)

This year should be a big year for Aswembar and Plastic Booty, we'll be debuting our Thor figure at Comic Con, with two versions on sale.

Thor stands 7 inches tall and is a co-production between ourselves and PRETTY IN PLASTIC! He'll be available in the two paint schemes pictured and comes in a hand made box along with a special art print!! Each figure will be $175, and we'll also be taking names for those interested in future runs of Thor, both as a DIY and in special editions!

We'll also have several sketch books on sale from myself, Raymond and our friends, as well a completed and painted version of the Pai garage kit we released last year!! This kit will be one of a kind and come built, painted and mounted on a base. Like the Thor's she'll also be going for $175!

The last batch of photos from just before Medusa-Patch was finished! Here you can see the assembled figure (sans hair snakes), and the primer stage. Also, our paint test object!! Ray's got the skillz, as usual and really came through for us. You can also see two of the painting passes here.

Furthermore, with the completion of Medusa-Patch and the show at Gunnzo, Plastic Booty now has time to set it's sights back on our original PANTHEON series of customizable toys!

And we're super excited to announce that Thor is just on the horizon and will be debuting at Comic Con San Diego 2009!! More news on him will be coming in June, including more detailed release info so please check back again soon!

The little blue house that could

I just wanted to give a shout out to Gunnzo, a sweet little custom toy shop right here in San Diego.

Chika, the owner and curator is really excited about the art toy community, going so far as to run her shop out of a modest blue house right off the main strip of Old Town. The name of her store is inspired by her late grandfather, who would make her toys from bamboo when she was a little girl. A loving and awesome tribute i think.

What the location lacks in square footage, it more than makes it up in an awesome display of customs done for her and of course, a good selection of retail products worth checking out! In addition to that she is doing a UK Dunny trade show the 22 of January, 6:30PM-8:30PM, if you are in or near the SD area. Please go and show your support!

Chika has mentioned there is a good possibility of more shows in the future if things go well, and to my surprise and delight she offered up a Camille Garcia Rose "Patch" for PBC to work on. Its going to be flippin' sweet i tell you! Pics of progress are coming soon, i just need to get them off Anthony's computer which recently got a bit sick. :\

VTN: From the other half

As John as noted, VTN did in fact go very well- we met alot of good people, got a real feeling for the incredible since of community in the hobby, and most importantly, got to spread the word about Plastic Booty.

The level of feedback and response to our Pantheon line up has been fantastic and I'm pleased to say that we have alot more on the way! The amount of support we've gotten from other production houses like Blockhead Brigade and Spanky Stokes has been very encouraging and we're excited to live up to their expectations!

VTN: more gentle than we had anticipated

So after months of hard work and sometimes not so hard work, we made our way to Pasadena for the Vinyl Toy Network show this past Saturday. It was an eye opening and exciting experience for me. It was our first stab at getting our designs out there, in person, flesh and blood, to some of the biggest names in the designer toy community.

Days before the show I had horrible visions of being snubbed by elitist artists, whom would look down their noses on our bland and uninspired works. It was completely unfounded, yet I don't think I can blame myself too much for the self induced anxiety. Its not every day I stick my neck out like that for some honest opinions of something you spent many many hours "perfecting". Curse of the artist i suppose.

But i must say, all assumptions and apprehension virtually dissolved within 10 min of walking out onto that floor. Everyone's opinions of our work aside, everyone was super friendly, cheerful, and overall helpful all day. The atmosphere was light and fun and more importantly, very intimate. The entire show could be viewed from the stage area in the middle. But don't get me wrong, there was wall to wall talent and creativity in every inch of that room.

And afterward, the Switcheroo gallery show was just another delightful step into what i think is a pretty awesome community of artists and wierdos just like us. I think we will fit right in.

So now that the demons of doubt have been squarely kicked in the tenders, PLASTIC BOOTY is going to be working even harder to create awesome stuff for everyone to enjoy.

Hello and welcome to the Plastic Booty Collectibles Production Blog, or the more pretentious PBCB. Anthony and I are both very excited to be embarking on this, and we hope that you will enjoy it as well.

Our purpose for this blog is twofold: To help keep you informed.
To help keep us on track. <-- this is super duper important. As our new projects develop, expect to see regular updates, teasers, and post-production spreads.

As for Sparrow, let me tell you that if i had not sculpted her for Anthony as part of a class we had together, we would not be here now taking the risk and stepping into the world of garage kits and designer vinyl.

She is sculpted from Chavant brand "Le Beau Touché" and stands approx 8"tall. She also has the distinction of being the first human character i have sculpted. So its at least worth mentioning for future nostalgias sake.

So anyway, thanks for taking a moment and checking us out. Feel free to take more moments in the future, as we've got several projects ramping up to full speed, as were both preparing for the Vinyl Toy Network show this December 6th and 7th!
